Ain't No Sunshine When Rain Comes

Hi beautiful folks, It's been full of inclement weather on my neck of the woods for the past two weeks. One good thing is we are not going to have water shortage once summer rolls in. However, without the sun, the Sunshine State ain't what it is. Show You My Stuff: the Train Case

Hi everyone, Once upon a time, somebody ask me to show the world my makeup collection. As happy as I was on the idea, the thought of sorting and photographing my makeup stash tired me out. Although I do not have a walk-in closet full of makeup, my stash is not that small either. So I really had to think hard and fast on how to wing this and the first piece was out, my <a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2009/03/all-my-brushes.html">brush collection post</a>. Again, I'm not boasting or anything but I have to admit: I own a lot of makeup. "Admitting is the first step to recovery", as they said, and I'm trying to wean myself from obsessive-compulsive makeup purchases. Gotta have some self-control, girl! So here it is, my train case that contains stuff I use most often. So I threw and gave the makeup away but kept the train case. After all, it's pretty and cheap. This train case is made of plastic and metal so it's not fire-proof, waterproof, or melt-proof at all. Concealing Dark Circles with Mineral Concealers

Hi everybody, How are you doing? I hope you had a good night sleep and feel well-rested. Lately, I've been an insomniac. For some unknown reasons, I could not go to sleep until the AM and I'm not talking about 1 or 2 AM. Usually, I can get some zzz at around 1 AM and it's been like that since I came to America. However, the sleeping time keeps on getting later and later until I found myself counting sheep at around 5 AM! As a result, I got dark circles! Until recently, I was very blessed with not having the dark shadows under my eyes but going to bed late finally took a toll on me and the dark half-moon below my eyes are just horrible. Yes, because I believe there are some products out there that conceal dark circles well; and No because I do not know how well "Well Rested" work. I'm allergic to bismuth oxychloride, remember? Anyways, here are things that work for me and I hope they will help you as well. 1. Everyday Minerals Concealers: These are fabulous concealers on the cheap side. I've used Sunlight for almost two years now and still haven't finished the sample they sent me yet! Recently, I got Abbott's Perk Me Up and it's also a nice concealer. While some people love Sunlight and others like Abbott's, I find applying a layer each of those does a wonderful job to conceal dark circles. Other potential dark circles eradicators from EDM: Pearl Sunlight which has shimmers, and Aussie Perk Me Up for those who have lighter skin tone. Price: $2.50 for a sample, $4.00 for a mini, and $8.00 for a giant pack. You can get a <a href="https://www.everydayminerals.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=26&Itemid=40">sample pack for free</a> (only pay for shipping, which is ~$3USD depending on how far you live from Texas.) </div></div> 2. Silk Naturals Concealers: I've been using SN foundations on and off for about 1.5 years and they give me good coverage. Since the base of their concealers are the same as that for foundations, I assume they would give good coverage as well. SN has two major types of concealers called "Sleep in a Jar": a <a href="http://www.silknaturals.com/creb/product_info.php?cPath=34&products_id=47">yellow version</a> and a <a href="http://www.silknaturals.com/creb/index.php?cPath=34">peach version.</a> While the yellow version only has one color, peach has three different shades from light to medium to match your skin tone. The reason why most mineral makeup companies are so into yellow and peach tone concealers is these two shades actually cover up dark circles well. Since most dark circles and bruises are in green, and purple shades, the opposite colors in the color wheel are peach/salmon and yellow. Karen, the owner of SN, has a more detailed explanation <a href="http://www.silknaturals.com/creb/product_info.php?cPath=34&products_id=47">here</a>. The transformation is dramatic, I have to say. Price: $5.92 for the yellow version, $6.25 for the peach version, and 75-99 cents for samples. SN does not give you a lot of products but their stuff do last for a very long time. 3. Adorned with Grace Minerals Foundation: Yes, you got it right: it's a foundation! AwG currently does not have any concealers in their lineup because the foundations are ridiculously pigmented. Plus, I believe Franchesca does not want her customers to pay extras on things that her foundations can do well. When I'm in a hurry, I just use a tiny but of AwG foundation and apply it right beneath my eyes. It does cover up quite well but I find it to work much better when layered on top of Sunlight. Since Sunlight tend to have a yellowish cast, a bit of foundation on top does not make Sunlight look so cakey while further conceal the dark circles. Now, the question is: do mineral concealers make tiny fine lines look more pronounced? The answer is: it depends on how you apply the product(s). When using mineral concealers, layering is very important as you do not want to load up a whole lot of products at once. Usually, it would take me about 2 layers of Sunlight to look good and I apply with a foundation brush (don't ask me why, it just works better that way!) The eyebuki brush from EDM also works very well, according to some source on the street. When everything else fails, just apply and blend with your fingers. The Sure Thing Palette Revisited: a Zany FOTD

Hi ladies, Happy Monday! I hope you had a nice weekend, now you're fully charged and ready for the new week. Recently, I've been going through my makeup stash and realized there are some certain items that do not get to see the daylight as much. Now, there's nothing wrong with them since I only picked the things I want to use. It's just that my taste changes from time to time and the ones that are underutilized may just sit there because of me. Again, there's nothing wrong with this palette (well yeah, like low pigmentation on the eye shadows and not shimmery enough), it's just that I do not really pay attention to it. While the eye colors lack pigments and have fall outs like snow in South Dakota in December, the colors actually are not that bad when applied with my beloved AMM (or your beloved MAC 217 brush). And the colors actually work together quite well, I have to admit. The one thing I really impress is the blush: it is so soft, pigmented, and awesome! Overall, this palette works well with all the colors together. Lips: I used the lighter lip color in the palette and applied with a lip brush. Then, to make my lips super-shiny, I applied a drop of clear lip gloss to the center of my lips. Face: I rarely put what I use on my skin, foundation and such, because I am lazy. My AwG shade is Grace 3.5, by the way;</li><li>Finishing powder: <a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2009/02/everyday-minerals-finishing-powders-its.html">Natural Reflections Fair</a> from EDM.</li></ul>There's a reason I called this a zany look: I rarely wear green eye shadows! If you've noticed the number of FOTDs I've done, you realize I do not wear green that much. Pairing green with brown is the last thing on earth I would have think of but they work very well together! The look is not really bright, thanks to the low pigmentation and lack of shimmer from the palette, and I think it would make a great casual Friday look. Now, about the hair: I do not curl my hair that often, maybe once or twice a month because I'm not so good with hair. This time the curls were great, they lasted for 3 days! Eyeko Cream: When Multitasking Looks so Good!

Hi y’all! It’s been a while since I heard about Eyeko from various bloggers but I had yet to emerge myself in the buzz. Then one day, I decided to take a plunge and hoped the items I ordered do not fall short. Eyeko is a British brand that sells cute manga-type products. To be honest, the brand does not have a big variety of makeup. However, it has steadily become somewhat a makeup cult fanatic brand due to its cutesy nature. Eyeko claims some products to be the favorites among celebrities. Initially, I was drawn into Eyeko cream, the company’s number one best selling cream. Word on the streets has that Eyeko cream is Kylie Minogue’s fave. However, at one point the cream was formulated with petrolatum, which my skin does not have the love for. Then Eyeko reformulated their favorite cream to add antioxidants and get rid of the petroleum ingredients. However, the later one jacks up the price a lot higher. At <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.eyeko.com">Eyeko website</a>, the cream is sold at 5 pounds a jar (~$7-7.50 USD) while at Cherry Culture it is around 10-12 dollars. So it was a no-brainer for me to order from Eyeko. The cream is a 3-in-1 product: moisturizer, eye cream, and highlighter. Since this year’s trend is multitasking products, Eyeko cream falls right into it quite comfortably. I decided to test it out as a multitasker to see if it can live up to its own claim. 1. As a moisturizer, this product is not that desirable: it dries out very fast and once dried, it can’t be blended. However, if you mix it with your own moisturizer, your skin will have a dewy glow that is quite nice. When mixing this way, the cream resembles MAC Strobe Cream at some level. I’ve used Strobe Cream before and totally love the product. However, its price tag is ridiculous: $29.50 USD if I recall correctly. As an eye cream, it does not moisturize that well either. However, I accidentally found a use for this cream: as an eye shadow base, it does look a whole lot like Bare Canvas paint pot from MAC. The two creams have the same pink pearly glow. However, Bare Canvas is a bit thicker in texture and lighter in color than Eyeko cream. Once blended, they look almost identical. They're quite similar, don't you think? <div style="text-align: left;"> 3. As a highlighter, Eyeko cream does a surprisingly inspiring job! To highlight my cheekbones, I use a very tiny amount and dab on the area above my cheeks. Then I blend like a mad woman to get a very glowy, cheekbone-popping look. Some other uses of Eyeko cream that I discovered: -As a makeup base: since dimethicone is an ingredient, the cream can be a good makeup primer. I found my makeup to slide smoothly and at the end of the day, it still looked fresh. Another wonderful thing is the cream does not give you that crunchy feeling most primers have. -As an under-eye brightener: since it can be used as an eye cream, I took a risk and dabbed it to the under eye areas. Guess what? It works! Now, this cream is not a concealer so it does not cover my dark circles. However, it brightens the area up significantly and also prepares it for concealer. However, the one disadvantage of this product is the glow factor. Although it is not glowing like a disco ball, the glow can be a big disadvantage for those who have oily skin. The thing is the glow can make your pores look huge! I applied it as a base and proceeded with my makeup, and then I took some pictures. While my face does look very nice in daylight (and real life), the pictures do not come up as nice: my face in the picture had a white cast that I do not love! I admire its effort to include jojoba esthers and antioxidants to this product as well as to move it away from the petroleum-base formula. For 5 pounds, this product is worth every pence I spent. Oh Happy April Fool's Day!

Hi ladies and gents, Happy April Fool's Day! I hope you're having a good day pulling pranks on people and not the other way around. Even if people are pulling your legs, you make sure to be a good sport and pull harder jokes on them, alright? Now, that's the spirit! Years ago when I was in high school, we used to write sappy letters confessing our "love" to some guys in class. Of course, the dorks were so happy to have some secret admirers that they forgot the date the letters were written! Some of them even waited outside of school to meet their secret admirers, haha! Then finally, the day after April's fool day, my friend and I felt so bad that we confessed our sin to the victims. They were shocked and baffled, some even said, "Why did you do that?" before we mentioned the date in the letters! Then recently, some folks in another department decided to foil the whole office of their professor just because they can. Let's put it this way: after the above mentioned prof walked in the office, he let out some screams and some choiced curse words. Then after that, he trusted nobody on the keys to his office. That was a fun prank but lots of aluminum foil was wasted. So how about me and my makeup on April fool's day?
