Makeup Lesson: How to Line Your Eyes

Good morning, my beauties!<br /><br />Recently, my friend Carol the Cookie Monster asked for tips to apply eyeliners. People always assume lining your eyes is a simple and easy task but the truth is very far from that assumption. It took me years to master the art of lining my eyes with pencil liners and many years after that to get over the fear of being poked in the eyes by a liquid liner. Just when I thought I was a pro, I found myself stuttering when I lined my friend's eyes. To my friends who are not into makeup (or are guys), curling eyelashes looks like something from Guantanamo Bay. A friend of mine always refers to the eyelash curler as a torture device. Looking back, my failure line my eyes was mostly due to the pencil I used. Hard ones are more pokey and do not tend to glide that well. Soft ones lack control and if you mess up, it is hard to fix. Well, I blink too much, which increase my chance to have beauty-related injuries. The muscles around the mouth and around the eyes are connected. Therefore, when you make an O, your eyes will not blink. Seriously, I'm not making this up. I prefer to line my eyes from the inside out but you can do whatever way you want: line from the outer corner, from the middle, from the Moon (?!) Well, you get the idea, right? Right?<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><i><b>The secret to getting a straight line is not to line it at once but to connect the dots.</b></i></div><br />There, I said it. Please write it down, underline it, and highlight it. This is important! It took me years to figure that out because there was no YouTube and Michelle Phan's channel when I started with makeup. Seriously, RiceBunny is a genius!<br /><br />What you need to do is to move your pencil liner bit by bit connect the dots until you get to the outer corner of your eyes. Now, imagine it is not and I need to fix it. But for the sake of having a complete tutorial, let's say I messed up big time and I need to fix my goop without having to start all over again, which is a pain in the you-know-what.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">So, how can I do it? With a slanted eyeshadow brush and a powder eyeshadow, of course! I use brown because my eyeliner is brown. If there is anything I need to fix or smooth out, my brush will help me do that. Also, if your eyeliner is not waterproof, doing this will enhance the lasting power of your liner a lot longer. I consider it the best part in eye makeup because I hardly wear eye shadows these days. With eyeliner on, you can look put-together fast without using any extra eye makeup on top. The Big Zzzzz

Hi everybody,<br /><br />So, it's Spring Break for those who are enjoying it. Last week was Spring break for me but instead of chillin' at St. George Island as planned, I was in Spring Break Stat Camp for Cool Kids at Gator Nation, aka University of Florida. And let me tell you this: compressing a one-year statistics course into 4 days is intense! However, I was too wigged out to play with him. All I want to do is to get enough sleep and make my brain function again.</div>Being sleep-deprived does strange things to my body: half of the time I was there, I felt hungry even when my stomach was full. The other half of the time, I tried to sleep but could not. The room was near to the highway and I could hear all of the cars, trucks, and vans driving pass. But anyways, I survived the Stat camp!<br /><br />Also, there were 2 packages waited for me when I came home: one from <a href="http://www.tummycake.com/">Tammy</a> and the other one from my Secret Valentine. Thanks, ladies! Right now, I'm just too tired to write anything coherrent and feel excited about the gifts but they are really awesome!<br /><br />So please give me some time to get back to my regular routine and post something decent. I meant to type something smart and clever but ended up with that, which is tackier than the bad cat food* <strike>the human handler</strike> Dao forces me to eat.<br /><br />While Dao is busy crunching numbers and jumping** with her laptop, I get to use her other laptop as well as raid her stash. HaHA, take that for givin' me chicken flavor cat food. I am a salmon and tuna feline, yo!<br /><br />Guess what, Dao? I got access to your brush stash, meow meow meow meow meow *big grin* And I also found out you got a request from Tweeter on brush comparison. I either gnaw your dearly beloved brushes into pieces or do a review for you. I could have gone feline crazy but instead, I chose to ride the high horse. Imagine me, a cat, riding a high horse. JMP!<br /><br /><a name='more'></a>Dao always said the EcoTools and E.L.F Studio powder brushes are softer than moi. Pfff, puh-lease, sister! Nobody/nothing is softer than yours truly. Maybe they are softer than her senior citizen teddy bear, <a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/karl-lagerfeld-x-steiff-teddy-bear.html">Whatshisface</a>, but they can't be softer than me.<br /><br />*Bring the powder brush to nose, twirl twirl twirl, brush brush brush*<br /><br />Ah-choo! She's right, this thing is soft! No wonder she loves it so much. I like the EcoTools brushes because they are made of bamboo and recycled materials. Plus the blush brush is thick enough to cause damage to them racoons that eat my food. The E.L.F powder brush is not so bad, though. If I didn't know any better, I'd say it's an expensive brush. But then, she has to pay shipping, which costs around 2 bags of cat food. No wonder why I have to eat this horrible chicken flavor thing she bought on sale!<br /><br />The StudioTools dual fiber brush is solid gold, if you can get it. The local Target does not carry it, despit jacking the price from 2 dollars (2 bags of treats) to 7 bucks (2 bags of Friskies.) That brush makes stripped people like moi look good, despite being called the skunk brush. Skunky schmunky, I'd gnaw it any day!<br /><br />The vintage StudioTools brushes are aiight, I don't know if the new ones are as soft. Or if you can find the same ones. That slanted blush brush makes raccon fur feel like chinchilla or something. It is scratchy, yo! I would not use it to brush my paws, even.<br /><br />In conclusion, I rank the brushes as follow: EcoTools, E.L.F Studio, StudioTools based on softness. Based on the price, they would be the same price per item if taken shipping and handling out of the question. For starters, I highly suggest EcoTools and E.L.F Studio. Their stuff isn't so expensive but are reliable. StudioTools brushes are hits and misses, although they are really cheap and easy to find at Target.<br /><br />**Jumping? Did I actually type "jumping"? N00b me! It's JMP, the number crunching software thingy.<br />*I abhor chicken, yet she brought bags of chicken flavored cat food home. Racoons ate it and I fought racoons. They can eat chicken flavored cat food but I won!<br /><br />So, whoever on Tweety-bird requested this comaparisony thingy, I hope you're happy. Send more requests, people. Anything I can pounce on, chew at, or rub around, I will review. You like, you give me tuna and salmon cat food, deal? I need to work to get my own cat food. Salut!<br /><br />How are you doing? I know it's late but I'd better blog when I still can. The next ten minutes or so, I may dose off. Did you watch the Academy Awards yesterday? I did, and then I had to go to this week-long boot camp early in the morning. So, for this week the agenda is crunching numbers and more numbers. And it's all for a good reason: I am getting closer to publish my first paper after all. Dao <i>et. al</i> is going to available in a prestigious scientific journal near you some time this year. Seriously, it's about time already!<br /><br />Anyways, I don't know if I can blog anything with essence this week. And I hope you understand. Lashed Out FOTD

Nobody ticked me off yet (and let's hope so!) What I am talking is about false eyelashes. Also, I lined my lower lashes with Pixie to give my eyes are brighter and more wide awake look. Yet, it is a very put-together look. And my eyes looked HUGE! I use my nose as the reference point and start snipping from there to the side. Also, I find nose-length hair to give me the best bang for the buck (pun intended!)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">A technique used in this step is "point cut" or "pointy cut", where the tip of your scissors is pointing upward and you use it to cut only. It is totally different than your everyday scissoring where you use the whole length of your blades to cut.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Point cut hair, once blown dry, will curve inward. This technique when used in bang trimming does give your bangs better shape than the blunt cut. It's time to use them!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Move the hair to the side of your face that you want your bangs to lay, then use the serrated scissors to soften your bang by cutting about 2 inches from the end. Don't worry, the serrated scissors will not shorten your bangs. It will give your hair more layers and movement.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">What I usually do at this point is to cut each 2-inch section and move to the next, starting from the outside to the inside of my bangs. After I am done with the whole bang, I use my hand to fluff my hair to see how it moves. If it is too thick, I use the serrated scissors again to thin it down.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Note: I bought my serrated scissors a long time ago when I was back home. I believe Sally's Beauty Supplies have both the serrated and regular scissors. For some unknown reasons, rolling my hair backward gives me much fluffier bangs without using any hair styling products at al! I need to re-emphasize the catastrophic effect of having bad bangs so please proceed with caution. It is better to take time when trimming your own bangs than living with something funny on your face for some couple of weeks (or months!) The first time I trimmed my bangs, it took me a good half hour. Later, as I know the routine, it only takes me 15 minutes. It is up to you to decide the thickness of your bangs. Mine is pretty thick because it goes well with my face.
