Attention cat lovers out there, this Funny Friday edition is for you. Also, I dedicate this to Tabs the cat, Makeup and Beauty Blog's mascot. Don't Mess with the Vampire: a Halloween FOTD

Hello ladies,<br /><br />"Halloween FOTD? What are you talking about?", you are wondering. I know today is the day before Halloween and I'm just having a makeup rehearsal for tomorrow. To me, Halloween is pretty much uncelebrated because I don't find it fun to see everyone and anyone dressing up like Paris Hilton. Also, it is not practical to spend a lot of money on costumes, wigs, and makeup just for one day. So usually I just dig out what I have in my wardrobe and wear them on Halloween. Let's see: lab coat-check, graduation gown with mortar board-check, funky dresses-check. You see, lot's of Halloween-worthy materials there.<br /><br />This year I was wondering what I would do for Halloween and then it struck me: why not making a vampire look? After all, I have lots of black shirts and pants in my wardrobe already, too many of them by the way. Also, I need to wear that leather jacket I bought last year. According to some movies, vampires are fashionable creatures and I already have the clothes in my closet. No need to buy anything, yay!<br /><br />I was inspired by Kate Beckinsale in Underworld when I created the look. I pair two dramatic elements together to pump up the drama: smokey eyes and red lips. The lips, however, come with a twist: if you look closely, they resemble the "just bitten" look. First of all, I would consider contouring my face a bit more since I don't use any blushes. Secondly, I would go for a lighter foundation (I used Grace 3.5 in this look) and maybe use a ghastly-looking finishing powder. Also, I need some fangs to go with the look. My natural teeth do not have enough cut for the look. Last but not least, I need a new concealer for those shadows under my eyes.<br /><br />Well, what do you think? Please give me some constructive criticisms, it's T-1 here! And I'm sorry for some of the brighter-than-bright pictures. Boy, do I feel like giving you a boot-camp style workshop here :D To go with the workshop vibe, this part is the "show and tell" where I'm going to demonstrate to you on how to rock the brown eyeliner and give you an easy FOTD. The Wonderful Brown Eyeliners

Last week when I wrote about <a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/mally-roncal-my-makeup-super-heroine.html">Mally Roncal</a>, the makeup artist who inspired me to wear makeup, a lot of you wanted to get brown eyeliners after reading. I must say that I'm very flattered that you are reading my blog and follow what I wrote. You make me happy, my dear readers, and as a result, today I am going to tell you about brown eyeliners. The agenda of the day has two parts: part 1 is to review the brown eyeliners that are worthy of my attention and good for us all to use, and part 2 is a tutorial and FOTD to show you how to use the brown liner. Sounds good? So let us begin, ya?<br /><br />There's no secret that I love brown eyeliners because (a) it is not black, therefore giving me a softer look, (b) it can be used as an eyeshadow instead of a liner, and (c) sometimes it can be used as an eyebrow pencil as well (although I don't use it that way anymore!) So for an eyeliner pencil, you get 3 different types of usage out of it and I think that's swell.<br /><br />I've tried lots of eyeliners in the past, some went straight to the dump while others were so good that they simply disappeared. So I'm going to make a list of the top hits and give it to you, right here, right now :)<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">1. I think it is suitable for people with normal to dry skin as it smudges a lot when I use it. Personally, I like Rimmel for its price: this kohl liner is around $3-4 USD, probably the cheapest and high-quality liner in the drugstore.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">2. This product is so good it was repossesed by my mama! She came, she saw, she conquered my Le Kohl eyeliner by just saying, "This one suits me" and put it in her makeup bag. That's how good it is, if my mom used it then it's worthy of attention. Cafe is a darker shade of brown and looks really rich on the skin. If you can't let go of your black eyeliner but want to join team brown, Le Kohl Cafe eyeliner is a good start. Currently around $6-7 USD, this product probably is one of the irreplaceable items at L'Oreal.</div><span id="fullpost"><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">3. Currently Revlon has Color Stay eyeliners which are wonderful to use but hard to smudge. Luxurious eyeliner is a newer product with a pencil side and a smudge-tip side. I am very impressed with the design as it looks like something from Estee Lauder that costs more money. Currently sold for $6-7 USD, this product is worthy of my attention.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">4. However, when I watched Matthieu, aka aboywearingmakeup, on YouTube and he recommended Teddy, I knew I had to get it. This liner is anything but your basic liner: it is plushy, rich, smooth, and gives you that 3D look, all in one pencil. The liner has flecks of gold and light brown pigments that makes your eyes spark. I think everyone should get Teddy although it's a bit pricier than the drugstore version ($14.50 USD a piece). More NYX Ultra Pearl Mania Swatch

Hello ladies,<br /><br />When I first purchased products from NYX, the one product that really stood out was the Ultra Pearl Mania. Contained in the bullet-size bottles, these little gems are so cute and affordable: currently Cherry Culture sells them at $1 USD a pop and Nonpareil Boutique at $1.25 USD. During the time Cherry Culture had free shipping with all orders, I placed my order of 8 vials of Ultra Pearl Mania. I had to keep myself from going crazy and buying everything NYX, after all there is going to be a sale coming soon. While the content of some colors fit in the mini jars totally, others still have some left overs in the original bottle. If you've been following the mineral makeup scene, you will notice that some of the pigments are heavier than others. NYX Ultra Pearl Mania is basically mineral pigments and I found the pigments of pink ones are lighter while the darker colors and blues are heavier.<br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;">So now are you curious of what I bought? Recently, the mood struck me to do a lot of these sweet n' low makeup and I found myself using Sky Pink and Mink a whole lot more.<br /><ul><li>Pearl is a soft cotton candy pink that is suitable to use as a highlighting color.</li><li>Nude is very close to my skin color and is a lovely nude color indeed. It is light sandy yellow and also can be used as a highlighting color.</li><li>Sky Pink is my favorite color of this batch as it pairs very well with <a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/hard-candy-eye-candy-in-taffy-simply.html">Hardy Candy Taffy </a>eyeshadow or <a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/more-adorned-with-grace-eye-shadow.html">Adorn with Grace Adorable</a> eye shadow to make the perfect pink eye combo.</li><li>Mink is an interesting color: it has this plushy look that's hard to describe. Remember the old Fanta commercial? "Wanna Fanta, don't you wanna Fanta?" It's supposed to be orange but it's not: the color is reddish-bronzy-orangy, hard to describe but it is beautiful nevetheless.</li><li>Space (sometimes called Space Blue): this color probably is similar to <a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/napoleon-perdis-loose-dusts-why-mac.html">Napoleon Perdis loose pigment </a>in Blue Velvet but much cheaper and more available (Mr. Perdis decided to fold at Sephora.)</li><li>Walnut is a gorgeous shimmery brown eye color. Among the colors of this batch, I think Walnut has more dimension. I can see a fleck of gold here, a spark of deep brown there. It also reminds me a lot of MAC Teddy eye kohl (I need to try pairing the two together to create a mind-blowing brown eye look sometimes.)</li><li>Charcoal is my attempt to not using black eye color when doing a smokey eye look. The thing is, this color is quite weak for that purpose but nevetheless a lovely color.</li></ul>As I said <a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/nyx-haul-part-1-eye-shadows.html">before</a>, if you want to try NYX, you need to get yourself some of these lovely Ultra Pearl Mania bullets. The one complain I have is the bottles: they are so tiny and hard to get my brush into. However, an extra couple of dollars to upgrade to the mini jars and voila, easy application! Price-wise, you can get 19 of them and still have 50 cents in your pocket instead of paying for a jar of MAC pigment. Also, they contain generous amount of pigment. Also, the colors are unique and I am not complaining of the treatment I received from the mineral makeup companies. Most of the owners are really nice and answer your emails personally. Unless you are a makeup artist who does a lot of gigs, I find it impossible to finish a pigment jar. So if you decide to buy them, please share with your friends and family members. Harajuku Lovers "G" Perfume: Kawaii Desu Ne!

About two weeks ago, Christine from <a href="http://15minbeauty.blogspot.com/">15 Minute Beauty Fanatic</a> had a prize contest for 5 people to win a bottle of perfume from the new Harajuku Lovers perfume collection. And guess what? I was one of the lucky five. To be honest with you, I would not buy any of the Harajuku Lovers perfume at all and therefore, would not experience the kawaii-ness (cuteness) of this new line of products from Gwen Stefani. The funny thing is when it came out and I read the teasers from various blogs online, I thought G was an interesting perfume to try. Then when Gwen Stefani's PR company sent me the prize, I opened it and saw a bottle of G perfume (FYI: I did not get to choose the prize). The packaging is so gorgeous with the fan-shaped swirls and matte black background. The details on the doll are unbelievable and they are painted, not stickered in like I've heard.<br /><br />The perfume itself is catered for food lovers. As a creamy tropical gourmand perfume, it has notes of mandarin, coconut, apple skin, jasmine sambac, freesia, magnolia, coconut cream, white sandalwood and cottonwoods. On me, it smells like pineapple-coconut candy but later blooms into a concoction of fruity candy fragrance. The perfume by itself is not strong and quite fun to wear. I imagine myself wearing it when the weather gets colder and I started to dream more of the tropical. As a gourmand, it is not as interesting or noticeable as <a href="http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P9864&categoryId=C12700">Angel by Thierry Mugler</a>, the most famous perfume without a flower note. However, G does make you feel younger and lighter at heart. I think it is more suitable for the teenage crowd and I personally think it's a weekend perfume for me.<br /><br />Price-wise, this perfume is expensive: $45 USD for the 30 ml (1 oz.) bottle and $25 USD for the 10ml (0.33 oz.) bottle of eau de toilette. For a regular, non doll-topped perfume, a 1.7 oz (50 ml) bottle is around $45-55 USD and a 3.4 oz (100 ml) bottle costs $55-65 USD. Tea Tree Oil: My Latest Obsession

Recently, I started to realize most of the personal care products I use have one thing in common: they have tea tree oil! Although I bought them separately and did not think that they would fit a theme, I have to admit I love tea tree oil. Let's see: it all started with a tea tree oil face wash and went downhill from there. Now I use a tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner as well as that face wash. Also, I have a vial of The Body Shop tea tree oil to use as a pimple spot treatment as well. Tea tree oil is the extraction from the leaves of <span style="font-style: italic;">Melaleuca alternifolia</span>, a native plant in the Queensland, New South Wales part of Australia. According to the USDA, <span style="font-style: italic;">M. alternifolia</span> is also commonly known as narrowleaf paperbark or tea tree. However, don't be confused between tea tree plant and tea plant (<span style="font-style: italic;">Camelia sinensis</span>) as the second one is the tea that we drink but the first one we can't make tea out of it.<br /><br />Tea tree oil has antifungal and antibacterial activities. Native aboriginal Australian crushed the leaves, applied to their wounds and noticed its healing properties. In 1990, a study compared the efficacy of 5% tea tree oil to 5% benzoyl peroxide and noticed tea tree oil has the same effect, although the time to see the initial result is slower.<br /><br />Moreover, tea tree oil has more usage than treating acne. It is also used to treat athlete's foot, dandruff, eczema, psoriasis, yeast infection, etc (<a href="http://altmedicine.about.com/od/herbsupplementguide/a/TeaTreeOil.htm">About.com's Alternative Medicine</a>) Like many other oils, tea tree oil is self-preserved and natural which is good for those who seek preservative-free products. Tea tree oil, however, cannot be drank or applied at 100% concentration as it is poisonous and may burn your skin. Dilution is necessary if you purchase pure tea tree oil.<br /><br />Here is a list of products that I've used and enjoyed a lot:<br /><span id="fullpost"><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">1. The Body Shop has a good skin care line with tea tree oil that I've used for over a year and this product is effective. It contains 15% tea tree oil and is used as a spot treatment. I also use it as a scalp massaging oil and sprinkle some drops of it in my home-made oil cleanser. For $9USD, you get 10 ml of tea tree oil goodness that lasts for a long time. My only pet peeve of this product is the dropper tend to discharge more liquid than I need.</span><br /><span id="fullpost"><br /></span><br /><span id="fullpost">My Rating: A</span><br /><span id="fullpost"><br /></span><br /><span id="fullpost"><span style="font-weight: bold;">2. The Body Shop has two types of tea tree oil facial washes: self-foaming and regular liquid cleanser (which is this one.) The first one is a bit more expensive and is gentler to use. However, as I have oily skin and at that time my zits were at full bloom, I needed something more than a gentle cleanser and this one fit the bill nicely. It is a deep cleanser but does not strip off the natural oil of your face. My face always feel nice and comfortable after washing and with the steamy shower, it makes a wonderful aromatherapy experience. Also, the new formula is paraben-free!<br /><br />My Rating: A+, the plus is earned via the effort of eliminating parabens from the product.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">3. This face mask has a strong tea tree oil smell that is very soothing. It feels warm upon application and does not dry out if you leave it for 10 minutes, the recommended time. However, I always leave mine on longer and my face feels tighter afterward. It does give me a nice glow after each use and my skin feels really smooth. Compared to Queen Helene masque, this one does not crack when dried and the texture is silkier. The price, however, is much more expensive than Queen Helene's.<br /><br />My Rating: B+<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">4. So what? American Crew has the best hair care products out there and the Tea Tree Shampoo is (a) cheaper than Paul Mitchell version, (b) cleans my oily scalp really well, and (c) is refreshing to use. On top of that, once rinsed, it does not leave a smell that indicated "shampoo for men" at all. The smell is very mild and once my hair is dried, I hardly smell anything. As my scalp is oily, it is hard to find a hair shampoo that does not turn my hair into an oily mess the day after. When I started using this product, it keeps my hair feeling clean for days! Also, I feel my hair has more volume and has less fall out than before, all thank to the tea tree oil.<br /><br />My Rating: A+, recommend for those who have oily scalp.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">5. While most conditioners make my hair stick together and over-condition, this one gives me enough moisture and makes my hair look and feel smooth and luscious. After using this product, I notice 3 things:<br /><br />1. I got more compliments on my hair: people even think I flat-iron my hair when I don't blow dry it. That's how smooth it has become these days.<br /><br />2. My scalp does not feel itchy anymore: I don't have dandruff but my scalp always feel like it has ants running around. It stops when I use this product. Even when I use the shampoo with a different conditioner, the feeling started again.<br /><br />3. Some small hair started to grow back: if you don't believe the healing power of tea tree oil, just use this product for a month or so and you will see the difference. The bottle is big enough to last you for a long time and a bit of product goes a very long way.<br /><br />Currently, Nature's Gate products are sold in health food stores and they are very affordable. Also, their products are paraben-free. Again, this is my HG conditioner and I will not replace it anytime soon.<br /><br />My Rating: A++, the bottle is HUGE!</div></div><br />If you notice, a body wash is missing from the list because I have no plan to tea tree-nize my shower :) That would be too excessive and I prefer my body wash to smell a bit differently. After all, tea tree oil tend to smell too medicinal sometimes.<br /><br />That's all folks! If you haven't tried any tea tree oil products yet, now it's the time.
